The focus of this course was on producing resources for a specific learning purpose. Using the "workshop" model, Dr. Zarinnia had us work in small groups to create a workshop for students. Workshops would be self-directed using a LibGuide that was created for the workshop. Our group focused on cooking, knowing that many students would be interested in the food aspect of the workshop. Using a combination of text, audio, video, and interactive surveys, students interested in cooking could explore, learn, and extend their learning on their own through our "Let's Get Cooking" LibGuide. Much thought was placed on creating an experience that would offer students various ways to gather information as well has different ways they could take what they learned and extend it to their own lives.
As students become more and more connected, and their need to be in a physical library lessons, librarians need to make accessible these "virtual" libraries that will allow students to take their learning beyond the four walls of the library, beyond the four walls of their classroom, beyond the walls of their building, and into their community and their larger world.
Within the LibGuides, students will find that all sources are cited. Teaching students ethical use of information and technology is vital in our ever-more digital world. Besides modeling ethical behaviors, students also have access to specifics using my webpage. Students access this page often, and of course know that when they need to, they can always ask an adult for help.
